Compass+ over the summer holidays

How is data synced with Compass+ over the summer holidays?

Schools set-up their Management Information Systems for the next academic year at different times and then switchover to the next academic year at different times over the summer months. In order to manage this, Assembly our partner, only supply us with data for your next academic year from 1st September onwards. This means that you will only have access to pupil data in Compass+ for the 2020/21 academic year from 1st September 2020.

What can I do with Compass+ during the month of August?

During the month of August, as we cannot pull through your pupil data, you will have access to reduced functionality, but there are a number of things that you can still do in order to plan for the upcoming academic year. We’ve written some guidance to help you get the most out of the tool: Find out more

Please note that you will not be able to take a Compass evaluation over the month of August, as this relies on your pupil numbers being pulled through from your Management Information System. Please return to the tool on September 1st to take your first Compass evaluation of the year.

More FAQs on how we sync your data

If you still have questions on how we sync your data, please find some additional FAQs below:

How does Compass+ sync data with your school over the summer holiday?

Our partner, Assembly, stop syncing with your Management Information System (MIS), over the summer holiday. They will stop syncing with your MIS on the 23rd July and restart syncing with your school system on 1st September. So if there are changes between 23rd July and 31st August made in your MIS, you will only see these reflected in Compass+ from 1st September 2020.

When will I be able to see my school data (pupils and groups) pulled through into Compass+ for the new academic year (2020/21)?

Our partner, Assembly, start syncing your data for the year ahead on the 1st September. So, from the 1st September you will be able to see pupils and groups for the new academic year, reflected in Compass+.

I have onboarded to Compass+ over the summer holidays, why can’t I see any data?

If you have onboarded to the Compass+ tool between the dates of 23rd July and 31st August, you may find that there is no pupil data in Compass+. Please return to the tool on September 1st once your data has been pulled through from your Management Information System and you will be able to start using all of the different features available to you in the tool.

Following the academic year change in the tool on September 1st, will I still be able to see all of the previous activities, evaluations, destinations and careers partners that I put into Compass+ in previous academic years?

Yes, you will be able to see all of the data you have input into Compass+ so far:

  • You will be able to view and edit your plan (including all of your activities) for the 2019/20 academic year within the tool still if you need to make any updates.

  • You will be able to view all pupil profiles for both past and present pupils, and any activities they had planned/completed or cancelled in the system for that year.

  • You will be able to see any group memberships that a pupil has had in previous academic years

  • You will be able to view destinations information that you have input for any current pupils, and you will also still be able to access this for past pupils

  • All careers partners that you have input into the tool, will still be available to you

From September 1st 2020, what should I expect to see in the Compass+ tool?

From September 1st, Assembly will sync your data for the next academic year and we will be able to pull this through to Compass+, and you will be able to do the following in the tool:

  • See all your pupils and groups (year, form, teaching, characteristics) for the 2020/21 academic year populated in Compass+, this will reflect what is in your Management Information System (MIS)

  • You will be able to attribute specific pupils and groups to your activities for the current academic year (2020/21)

  • Any pupils who are now off roll (left or alumni pupils) will automatically move over to the ‘Left’ section, you will still be able to access their Pupil profile and see any activities these students took part in and download a PDF report if needed

  • Any pupils that are still on roll, will appear under ‘Pupils’ in the ‘Current’ area, and you will be able to see all previous activities that they took part in, in the previous academic year (2019/20), if you go to their pupil profile, and any groups that they were previously a member of in the system

Will all of my custom groups still exist following the academic year change?

If you have created custom groups for the previous academic year (2019/20), then we have made it straightforward for you to copy these across to your current year (2020/21) so that you can continue to use these to create more targeted interventions/activities in the system. You can access guidance for this here.
